Insulin Pump Accessories - Getting Deliveries on Time!
We have now tried, unsuccessfully, to order the RIGHT infusion sets and accessories for Alissa's insulin pump twice!
The second delivery arrived today and, once again, they've delivered an infusion set with a 9mm needle, rather than the 6mm needle that Alissa
is used to.
Despite calls to the suppliers saying that this is an urgent requirement (Alissa is home for just one week and we wanted to get her used to
the new insulin pump, try out the new infusion sets, do fasting to help establish new and better basal rates.
Instead, we seem to have sat waiting for the delivery van most days this week (next day delivery took two days!) - it's now Friday and Alissa
has to go back to University tomorrow.
So far, we've been unable to try out Patrick, her new pump, at all.
9mm or 6mm?
We did think about trying the longer needle, but with Alissa being so tall and thin, we weren't sure if it would feel comfortable.
Also, we felt that the absorption of insulin would be quite different from a longer needle, and she'd have to adjust to different basal rates
all over again.
If only we'd noticed that the two trial sets given to us by the diabetic nurse were too long - or that Minimed had delivered us the right
sizes.
I think that it might be helpful, in future, if diabetic nurses give the codes (e.g. MMT321) for the accessories, so that there is no
confusion over what's being ordered and, hence, no delays.
As it is, we're waiting for a call back from Minimed in London to see if they're able to supply the sets that we're asking for. It may
be a further few days before Patrick makes his debut on the scene!
