Why Insulin Pumps?
We've been really getting in to writing articles and creating information for this site. I've learned
a lot about Alissa's early experience of being a diabetic and how it felt for her.
We've both written about why we felt that insulin pumps were the best decision we made regarding Alissa's health
care - you can check Alissa's and my insulin pump thoughts.
For us, an insulin pump was the right decision - it's allowed Alissa to lead as normal a life as possible whilst
keeping my stress levels down to almost normal!
If your child is currently on injections but you are considering moving them across to an insulin pump - make
sure that you get plenty of advice from other parents - and, of course, fully involve your child in the decision
making process.

Alissa, University & Diabetes
Alissa's been home for the weekend!
She's enjoying planning her future career - whether it's teaching or something else.
She's been trying to work out if the spots around the edge of her face, in her hairline, are related to her
sugar levels. It's one of the things that you just don't know - and have to kind of work out for
yourself.
We also had an amusing incident yesterday when she was helping her brother unpack his bags. As she was
helping she realised that she was going low and even said "I should stop, I shouldn't be helping you" - bless her,
she ended up putting a very breakable bottle on the top of his less than stable suitcase on a windy day .... it
doesn't take much to guess what happened next. Easily done by anybody, but especially easy when you're
feeling low and your judgement isn't as clear as usual.
Poor brother was upset about the broken bottle - but I guess it's just one of those things and a reminder to
just stop when you're feeling low and have a snack.
