If you frequent any of the diabetes support forums you'll probably have
heard someone commenting about this book.
We first came across it by noticing that people on the Tu Diabetes forum were commenting that by following the system proposed by Doctor Bernstein that they had managed to regain control of their diabetes.
The results included massively improved HBA1C levels and a general sense of well-being and lack of tiredness. So, we hopped on to Amazon and decided to give it a go!
What we've learned is amazing - there's just so much that our medical practitioners didn't know or haven't chosen to tell us. Reading the book helped us understand better the role of insulin in the body, the interaction between insulin and food, just what glucagon is and why it's important to understand it.
Also, it's so refreshing to read a book by someone who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for years - and has managed to survive with few of the complications seen by his peers, diagnosed with diabetes in the same decade as him.
If you genuinely are looking to improve control of your blood sugar levels, then this is a must read book. Whether you agree or implement it all is your decision, but you'll certainly learn something about choosing foods that can help you and your body cope with diabetes!
