The Nightmare after Christmas

Phew - Alissa is still home from Uni and though we've been working hard at improving them, her sugar levels just don't seem to be getting any better.  One minute they're down to normal and hours later they're soaring through the roof with no apparent reason.

Last Friday she'd had poor levels for so long that she was feeling poorly, we didn't have any Ketostix to check her ketone levels but were pretty sure that she'd have ketones if we were able to check.

Having tried everything ourselves we phoned the diabetic nurse at Bournemouth hospital who thankfully got back to us very quickly with some suggestions.

She's ringing again today to see how things have been - but it seems that the sooner Alissa gets her new insulin pump and creates new basal rates, the better.  Things can't get much worse than they are at present.

The good news is that Alissa's purple Paradigm pump (from Minimed) is now on order - all we need is to visit and get to understand how to use it.

We're both hoping that this will include a refresher course in how to best use the pump to manager her blood sugar levels and keep them down - as well as having an opportunity to work out new basal rate information.

Otherwise, life continues as normal - our great excitements today are twofold.  One, the new Vogue magazine may arrive!  Two, we have a Waitrose delivery scheduled with loads of healthy, tasty food.
