Holiday, Travel & Diabetes

We recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend away in Ireland.

Funny isn't it - we stayed away at a B&B and ended up eating rather poorly - simply because we didn't want to spend money on eating out at restaurants all the time.

Alissa reckons it was a bad weekend - both for her sugar levels and her skin.  It didn't help that it was her brothers birthday - so we indulged in a large chocolate cake.

The worst thing though was not really knowing what foods to eat or buy when shopping - we had sandwiches and wraps, together with fresh fruits - but on the last day ended up buying pies and pastries - full of sugar and salt.

As always, after the disaster - we wonder what we could have done differently.  It's hard when so many "healthy" snacks contain surprisingly high sugar levels and you're in a room with no opportunity to prepare your own food.

I think that's why we normally stay in self-catering accommodation - it puts us in far better control of what we're eating without damaging the purse so much!
