Heather's Pilchard Flan recipe
This is a tasty standby that you can cook quickly.
Ingredients
- 7½ oz can of pilchards
- 1 small onion
- 2 eggs
- ¼ pint of milk
- 1oz grated cheese
- Salt and pepper
- One prepared flan case
How to Make the Flan
- Mash the pilchards
- Chop onion and mix together with pilchards
- Beat the eggs and milk together
- Add salt and pepper
- Mix well and pour into baked flan case
- Sprinkle with a little cheese
Bake for 30 minutes at 200 degrees F. Then remove flan ring and cook for a further 10 minutes.
This can be served hot or cold and is great with baked or new potatoes and fresh salad or steamed vegetables.
Hint
Although I often cheat and used a pre-baked flan case, making your own pastry from half white, half wholemeal flour and baking it blind (for
about 20 minutes) would be a far healthier choice.
However, this is packed with goodness - as the pilchards contain Omega 3 which has been shown to be so good for
us.
